Description
The demographic changes in progress are putting the traditional ideas of social service to the test. Parallel to this, a new idea of welfare is emerging based on an active role of the user, in which citizens, in addition to being protected at the times of greatest difficulty, are also put in a position to play an active and collaborative part in the construction of their own well-being.
In order to develop, active welfare needs to be supported by a new generation of services, products and communication aids that come into play in all stages of a typical health case: prevention, diagnosis, cure and rehabilitation. All this demands new design capacities that can also lead to the exploration of the potential of new technologies: from the biomedical to those to support new forms of socialisation (social networks, web 2.0).
